Comparison
Belowdecks and Lindy compared point by point
Lindy is an AI teammate that works in Slack on your team’s internal work. Belowdecks installs and monitors AI agents that do your business’s repetitive work for you. This page compares the two.
Two ways to hand work to AI
Lindy now presents itself as an AI teammate, “Lindy Teammate”, built first for Slack; Microsoft Teams messaging is announced for later. You write to it by mentioning it in a thread, by direct message, by text or from Gmail, and you describe in plain language the routines it should run on a schedule or when an email arrives. For one person, it handles emails, meeting prep, the calendar and follow-ups. For the team, it produces reports, updates the CRM and answers from meetings, files and connected tools.
With Belowdecks, our team installs AI agents in your business that do the repetitive work, then monitors their work and adjusts them every month. An agent does a piece of work from start to finish, such as answering a quote request received on your site or by email. Before an important action, the agent waits for your go-ahead, and it asks your team when information is missing.
Lindy therefore suits the internal work of a team that lives in Slack. Belowdecks suits work that starts with your customers, such as a quote request, handed to agents that a team installs and monitors.

Choosing
The situation where each one fits best
Both options meet real needs. The right choice depends mostly on the kind of work to hand over and where your team works.
Lindy fits better if
Your team already works in Slack and wants a self-service assistant for its internal work: emails, meeting prep, reports and CRM updates. You prefer a per-user budget, or you require a vendor audited for SOC 2 Type II.
Belowdecks fits better if
The work to hand over starts with your customers: a request received on your site or by email, a quote to prepare, an invoice to follow up on. Important actions must wait for your go-ahead, and our team monitors the agents’ work every month.
Common questions about Belowdecks and Lindy
What does Lindy sell today?
Lindy now sells “Lindy Teammate”, an AI teammate that lives in Slack. The old documentation page for the “Lindy Embed” widget now leads to the teammate’s documentation.
You describe to Lindy, in plain language, the routines it should run on a schedule or when an event occurs, such as an email received or a meeting ending.
Can Lindy answer our customers?
Lindy’s current documentation describes neither a chat widget for a website nor a phone agent for customers. Lindy’s phone number is for the user themselves, and in customer support, Lindy drafts replies for your team.
With Belowdecks, an assistant on your site talks with your customers. The customer confirms the summary of their own request, sees only their conversation, and reads below it the privacy notice you write.
How do approvals work in each case?
In Lindy, each integration is set to “Always allow”, “Require approval” or “Don’t offer”, and the person approves or denies in the Slack thread. Lindy’s pricing page states that anything with an outside effect waits for approval, and its integrations documentation specifies that these guardrails apply only in shared Slack threads: web chat, Slack direct messages and texts are not covered, and read-only actions never are.
With Belowdecks, we set up the agents at installation to ask someone on your team for their go-ahead before an important action: an approval request in a conversation, a question from the agent, or an approval before the agent starts. That person can answer from an email.
Where is the data kept in each case?
Lindy runs in the cloud, with subprocessors such as Google Cloud, AWS and MongoDB. Its security page says it supports data residency requirements, but its terms of service state that the service is hosted and the data processed in the United States. Lindy displays a SOC 2 Type II audit, compliance with GDPR and PIPEDA, and controls aligned with HIPAA. With Belowdecks, your data is hosted in a region agreed at the diagnostic, which may be outside Quebec.
In both cases, the text read by the AI goes through its provider, which may process it outside Quebec. With Belowdecks, other data also leaves your Belowdecks workspace, such as technical error reports, notification emails, the monthly usage report and the agents’ web browsing. The Security page lists them, and your privacy impact assessment must take this into account.
